British tennis star Oliver Tarvet has revealed the biggest thing he took away after playing Carlos Alcaraz at Wimbledon.

In his Wimbledon debut, Tarvet dispatched Leandro Riedi in straight sets to set up an incredible tie with Carlos Alcaraz on Centre Court.

Things did not go to plan for Tarvet, who lost in straight sets to Alcaraz on his way to reaching the Wimbledon final.

The British star has revealed the biggest lessons he was taught by the iconic six-time Grand Slam champion.

Oliver Tarvet was reassured after competing with Carlos Alcaraz at Wimbledon

Tarvet competed with Alcaraz on the big stage, taking nine games from the Spaniard, and that confirmed to the star that he was heading in the right direction.

“Yeah, I mean, I think just a big takeaway was that actually I’m not as far off as as I thought I was,” said the British star to Tweener Head Tennis.

“I’m not saying I doubted myself or, you know, I didn’t think I was I was good or I didn’t think I deserved to be there,” he explained.

“Because, you know, I think I’ve put in a lot of hard work and you know, I feel like I deserve to be there, but it was, you know, it was great just reassurance that, okay, like, what you’re doing is the right thing.

“And I think it was great for our university and for our coaches as well. And, you know, it was just great, you know, that, okay, what we’re doing is right.

“We don’t need to change anything, just keep on doing what we’re doing, showing up every day to practice. Results will come. Yeah, that was kind of the main thing.”

Tarvet reached a career high of World No. 377 thanks to his summer exploits, which included winning two Challenger events in San Diego and Roehampton.

Oliver Tarvet is another British prospect through the US college system

British players have found some incredible success learning the ropes of the sport through the American college system.

Cameron Norrie and Jacob Fearnley both attended Texas Christian University on scholarships to hone their tennis before joining the ATP Tour.

Tarvet has done the same at the University of San Diego, where he is still currently a student at the California school.

The British star’s education meant Tarvet was not able to claim his Wimbledon prize money in full due to American college rulings.
