Russian authorities have detained a suspect in the shooting of Lieutenant General Vladimir Alekseyev, a senior military intelligence officer, in Moscow. The suspect, Lyubomir Korba, was apprehended in Dubai and handed over to Russian authorities. Korba is alleged to have been working on behalf of Ukraine, and the attack follows a series of assassinations of Russian military officers blamed on Ukraine. The shooting occurred at an apartment building in northwestern Moscow, and Alekseyev was hospitalized after being shot multiple times. The Russian Investigative Committee stated that Korba arrived in Moscow in December on instructions from Ukrainian intelligence services to commit a terrorist attack. Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov described the incident as a 'terrorist act' intended to disrupt peace talks. The shooting took place just a day after negotiations between Russian, Ukrainian, and U.S. representatives ended in Abu Dhabi, aiming to end the ongoing conflict in Ukraine. Alekseyev, 64, has been the first deputy head of Russia's military intelligence agency, the GRU, since 2011 and was decorated with the Hero of Russia medal for his role in Moscow's military campaign in Syria. He was also seen on state TV speaking to Yevgeny Prigozhin, the leader of the Wagner Group, during a short-lived mutiny.
