A MOVIE GETS 8 WEEKS TO PROVE ITS WORTH 1. Working in the digital media space, I never thought that films/movies space is so much cluttered. In fact, India is world's largest film-making country with 1700-1900 films released every year vs 500-600 films in Hollywood. 2. And this clutter means that a movie maker has to fight or find the 'right' weekend to release the film to maximize revenue. Interestingly, 2/3rd of revenue that a film makes, comes from theatrical release. 3. Typically the gap between theatrical release to OTT release for a film is around 8 weeks. Since most of the OTT releases are aligned before the theatrical release, this gap (Theatre to OTT release) is the deciding factor for the worth of the movie. This sounds similar to social media, where the virality (success in terms of views) of a content piece depends on the engagement the piece garners in initial minutes/hours of its release.
